We never know when a big snow will come down and we will need to go out on the slick roads.
I have been watching Craigslist, and found a set of wheels with P225/60R16 Studded Snow tires that may fit the 2012 Volt. The Alloy wheels are off of a late 90s Cadillac.
The owner of the 4 wheels with Studded Snow Tires and I met at Les Schwab, this morning and they test fit one of them on the Front and Rear of the Volt.
Everything was a good fit on the Rear Axle but, on the Front Axle the inside webbing of the Aluminum Alloy wheel rubbed the Disc Brake Bracket.
If we loosened the lugs about an 1/8" then the wheel spun free with no interference.
I purchased the wheels and tires and will carefully remove a small amount of the Aluminum webbing inside the wheel. It is only going to take a small amount of grinding to get clearance to the disc brake bracket.
I ground a little and them installed the wheel. Then rotated the wheel to check for interference, took it back off and seen where it was rubbing and did It took a couple of tries to get the webbing ground down to clear the brace. Then took the Volt for a test drive to make sure with the weight on the wheel that there was still not any contact with the Disc Brake Brace. I did every wheel to fit the front so that in the future all wheels will fit front or rear locations.
Our winter only last typically from December to the end of January.
These Tires and Wheels, will give us more confidence getting around in the Snow and Ice this Winter.
So what do you call a Volt with Cadillac wheels?
Voltillac!
